This qualification is an introductory course to automotive detailing. It will equip you with the skills and knowledge required to perform a variety of tasks on vehicle bodies within the automotive retail, service and repair industry. You will learn how to maintain the automotive body of cars and other vehicles and build your skills in automotive detailing where you will clean, polish and buff vehicles using industry-standard practices and materials.

Students can choose from different specialisation units:

  • Auto Body Repair
  • Automotive Painting
  • Automotive Dismantling
  • Automotive Detailing
  • Vehicle Body Assembling

This is a VET in School (VETiS) Program (QLD residents only). Students can undertake VET at school:

  • As part of their school studies where it is delivered and resourced by a school registered training (RTO)
  • By enrolling directly to Intech
  • As a school-based apprentice or trainee

Course Overview

This course is perfect for individuals who want to pursue an automotive apprenticeship. It will prepare you to perform basic automotive workplace tasks safely and effectively. You will develop your skills through practical and hands-on work in a simulated workplace environment. There is an opportunity to practice and apply your skills by undertaking on-the-job work placement to start preparing for a successful career in the automotive industry.

Students will learn about:

  • Workplace safety in an automotive workplace
  • How to use and maintain tools and equipment
  • Procedures to carry out maintenance and repair of an automotive vehicle body
  • De-nibbing, buffing and polishing procedures
  • Dismantling vehicle components
  • Cleaning vehicle body and vehicle trimming
  • Basic diagnostic procedures
  • Servicing operations
STUDY OPTIONS:

At Intech Institute, we offer a range of study options to suit different types of students and their needs.

On-Campus Study

Study on campus and learn practical skills with our qualified trainer. You will have access to Intech’s fully fitted automotive and engineering workshop which provides a simulated engineering work environment.

VET In School (VETiS)

If you’re currently a high school student, you have the opportunity to gain a vocational qualification that may lead to employment or further study. This is a great stepping stone to become job-ready and build practical skills in a formal work environment.

A VET qualification may provide credit towards the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).

School-based apprenticeship or traineeship

You may complete this qualification while still enrolled in school through a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship (SAT).

Entry requirements

This qualification may be accessed by direct entry.

While there are no formal entry requirements, it is expected that students have basic Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills.

QLD Domestic Students may be eligible to enrol through VETiS (subject to eligibility requirements).

To be eligible for a VETiS program, you must be:

  • Currently enrolled in Year 10, 11 or 12 and attending school
  • Permanently reside in QLD
  • An Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian Permanent Resident

To be awarded the Certificate II in Automotive Body Repair Technology, the following units of competency must be achieved.

AURASA002 Follow safe working practices in an automotive workplace
AURAMA001 Work effectively with others in an automotive workplace
AURAFA002 Read and respond to automotive workplace information
AURTTK002 Use and maintain tools and equipment in an automotive workplace

PLUS SPECIALIST ELECTIVE UNITS:

Auto Body Repair

AURVTN002 Carry out non-structural vehicle panel repairs
AURVTN003 Remove and store vehicle body components
AURVTN016 Repair vehicle body panels using filler

PLUS GENERAL ELECTIVES

AURVTA001 Prepare vehicles for customer use
AURETR025 Test, charge and replace batteries and jump-start vehicles
AURLTJ013 Remove, inspect and refit light vehicle wheel and tyre assemblies
AURVTP002 Mask vehicle panels and components
AURVTK001 Use and maintain vehicle body repair hand tools

INTERNSHIP/ ON-THE-JOB WORK PLACEMENTS:

Students are encouraged to seek industry work placement to gain the maximum benefit from the course. This is an opportunity to not only apply and practice the skills acquired in a formal work environment, but to improve their capabilities. As a result, the student will not only meet but exceed their learning outcomes.

Teaching and assessment

Domestic Students (Full-Time)
As a domestic student, you will attend face-to-face classes and practical workshops, Monday to Friday, on Intech campus. Compulsory 75% attendance is required.

VET in School Students
Students completing this course in their school are required to attend face-to-face classes and workshops on school premises.

Resources Provided
Students attending full-time classes will receive handouts/learning material relevant to each unit, safety boots and Intech t-shirt on induction day.
We recommend students wear personal protective equipment suited to the engineering industry.

On induction /orientation day, students will receive:

  • Overview of each unit of competency
  • Methods of assessment
  • Student handbook
  • Training plan and schedule
  • Internship details and journal
  • Textbooks and study materials
  • Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) overview
  • Work placement support
RPL

Recognition of Prior Learning is a process of having your work experience and skills formally assessed for the purpose of gaining a nationally recognised and accredited qualification. InTech offers you the chance to transfer your skills and experience and turn it into a Certificate II in Automotive Body Repair Technology!

Candidates can demonstrate their skills through a combination of:

  • Portfolio of Evidence
    • Prior qualification (accredited and non-accredited)

Fees and funding

This qualification is funded by the Queensland Government under VET in School (VETiS).

Students currently enrolled in high school in Years 10, 11 or 12 can undertake this qualification under the VET in School program. VETiS is fully funded and is fee-free for high students.
